Typically to stretch a canvas of this size (4ft by 3ft) the outer edge of the stretcher would be about at least an 1,5 inch thick to guarantee stability. The artist in this case insisted the edge could only be a 1/2 inch thick and appear to float off the wall.

This was quite challenging and I was able to come up with a design which not only satisfied her wishes, but also is able to be adjusted over time to re-stretch the canvas.
