REMODELING & DESIGN

Heavy Duty Door Hinge, 2010

My client at first wanted to mount these 500lb, 5ft by 12ft doors on the wall. But then we decided that it would be incredible if they opened. This would allow the wall space behind the doors to be used for movie screening and a dry erase idea board, etc. I immediately realized the hinges for these doors could not be purchased but would have to be custom built. Instead of reinventing the wheel I tried to think of a bearing system that would support these doors safely. A motor vehicle wheel axle system was the obvious answer and worked out extremely well in terms of cost and materials and time to build.
